Classic Canvas

Classic Canvas

Great art work has been displayed on canvas since time immemorial. Painters migrated from wooden panels to canvas during the Renaissance because of its availability, resistance to cracking, interesting 3 dimensional textured surface and light weight; all features that still make canvas an attractive choice for both paintings and photographic prints today.

How is a canvas photographic print made?

These days, canvas is primed with special coatings that take up photographic ink allowing prints to be created using the same printers and inks used to make paper prints.

The finished print is then typically mounted by wrapping the canvas over a wooden frame - a so-called gallery wrap - that can then be hung directly on the wall for a sleek, contemporary look that still gives a nod to classical art.

What are the advantages of a canvas print?

For their size, large canvas photographic prints are incredibly light making them a breeze to hang. Moving? No problem! The sturdy frames make even large pieces a snap to transport.

The 1.5 inch thick wooden frame also gives the piece a real presence on the wall and combines with the textured surface create a dynamic and engaging presentation.

In addition to their light weight and durability, canvas pieces are incredibly versatile. Their physical presence makes dramatic wildlife shots seem to leap right off the wall while their textured surface enhances subtle landscapes harkening back to a classical age. They can be created in whatever size suits a room best and are easy to clean making them great choices for rooms that see a lot of people traffic.

Given their reasonable cost for their size they make an ideal choice for gifts, combining art with one’s own personal taste.
