There are many ways to display a fine art photographic print on your wall. From the traditional look of a matted and framed print on photographic paper, to the art gallery look of wrapped canvases, all the way to the ultra modern metal print. Each has its own esthetic and it can sometimes be tricky to choose which is the right type for the print you’re purchasing. In this post I’ll cover some of the features of metal prints.
How are they made?
Metal prints are created by using a dye-sublimation process to infuse the print directly onto a specially coated sheet of aluminum. This requires specialized machinery to generate the heat and pressure required and therefore metal prints tend to be the most expensive type of print available.
What are the advantages of a metal print?
At the end of the process however, the resulting print is lightweight (for its size) and easy to hang. It does not require framing, is easy to clean and incredibly durable making it well suited for indoor or outdoor display.
Given the dyes are infused into the coating, the colours won’t fade and stay rich and vibrant for many years.

What sorts of prints look good in metal?
Generally images full of bright, rich, saturated colours look amazing as metal prints. The deep blacks that can be achieved along with the glossy finish can make for stunning black and whites also.

When to choose a metal print?
The sleek, vibrant, ultra modern look of a metal print really makes an impact. Choose this type of print if you’re looking to make a strong visual or emotional statement with the piece. These prints beautifully complement a modern decor such as an office setting or a large open area in your home and will enhance these spaces for years to come.
